GHD & ME
Growth hormone is a natural substance made by a very small gland at the base of
our brains. Growth hormone is also a protein, like the ones found in the foods we
eat. Proteins are required for the forming and function of the body’s cells, tissues,
and organs. This is why growth hormone is necessary for you to grow.
GHD is a condition where your body does not make enough growth hormone on its own
for you to grow. Growth hormone is needed for growth of our body’s parts, like our
bones. If you have GHD, you may not be able to grow to an expected adult
height.

GET GROWING WITH TEV-TROPIN®
Every child is different. Some remain on growth hormone longer than others. Younger
children may be on growth hormone for a longer time. Your doctor will watch your
growth and decide how long you will need treatment.
Growth does not happen overnight. You may have to wait a few months or longer before
you see a change. Also, growth rates are different for all children. The same goes for children
taking growth hormone. If you keep taking your TEV-TROPIN® as your
doctor has prescribed, pretty soon, you’ll get growing!
There is no proof that one growth hormone works better than any other. What is important
is that you take TEV-TROPIN® just as your doctor has prescribed.
A child who is taking TEV-TROPIN® should not stop without a doctor
saying to first. When you take TEV-TROPIN® as prescribed, you’ll
become a real grow-getter.
The most important thing to do is take your injection as prescribed by your doctor.
You should also go to your regular doctor visits so he or she can chart your progress.
Also, you may think your parents are silly when they tell you to eat fruits and
veggies. Eating well can also help your growth. So can exercise.
Keep in mind, with TEV-TROPIN®, your dreams are only bigger than
your body… for now!

INJECTIONS
Some treatments don't work if taken as a pill. TEV-TROPIN®
A therapy that treats children who have growth failure due to GHD. It works by replacing growth hormone in the body. The growth hormone in TEV-TROPIN® is made in a lab, but it works just like the growth hormone a body would make
and other growth hormones only work if they are injected. This is because they are
made of
protein
A large molecule consisting of one or more chains of amino acids. Proteins are required for the structure, function, and regulation of the body's cells, tissues, and organs (like those found in foods). When you eat proteins, your body
breaks them down with the help of acids in the stomach. If you took TEV-TROPIN®
like a pill, your body would break down the protein and you wouldn’t grow.
There is one thing that has to happen first before you can start getting injections.
You or your family has to receive injection training from a Growth Solutions®
A special program designed for children taking TEV-TROPIN® and their caregivers. This program offers 1) home injection training and education; 2) insurance and reimbursement support for caregivers; 3) educational and support materials; and 4) a toll-free hotline for nurse support at 1-866-TEV-TROP (1-866-838-8767)
nurse. After that, your parent or caregiver should be able give you your injections.
When you are comfortable enough and your parent or caregiver feels that you are
old enough, you can give yourself injections.
Your doctor or nurse will teach you how to inject TEV-TROPIN®. Also,
your TEV-TROPIN® Welcome Backpack Kit will provide you with helpful
tools. These tools include the Patient Video and Injection Instructions Brochure
to help you with your training.
